AUTHORITY

Is authority important in matters of religion?  Maybe we cannot tell by the actions of some today that it is important, but the Bible states emphatically that it is very important to God (Colossians 3:17) - And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  Obviously there is not much respect for Biblical authority today because man has introduced many ideas into the religious world that gain the approval of men but simply ignore the authority given to Christ (Matthew 28:18-20) in the inspired scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

This series of articles will provide the reader with greater insight toward the importance of authority.  We must once again renew the plea, “to speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where it is silent.” (1 Peter 4:11).

We must demand book, chapter, and verse to authorize the things we practice in regard to our salvation as well as the work and worship of the church.  As Paul states in his letter to Timothy we must hold fast to the pattern of sound words (2 Timothy 1:13) - Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

The only way for us to hold fast to the revealed pattern is to respect the authority of the scriptures and be diligent in our study of the Bible (2 Timothy 2:15).

These articles are designed to help us better understand the subject of authority and then it will be our decision if we are willing submit to the authority of Christ as we live each day of our lives.
